My Hero: Eulid Haliday

parkinglot

On Tuesday, a carjacker spotted a 70-year-old woman putting a couple of bags of groceries into her van, and probably thought she was an easy target. He soon found out just how wrong he was. When the carjacker took off racing through the parking lot, Eliud Haliday jumped inside the moving van and put the would-be car thief into a choke hold and held on — while the van sped through town. Michele Norris talks to Haliday about what happened.

I caught this clip on NPR the other night and I have to say it made my day! Eulid Haliday is a 70 year-old woman in Florida who was loading grocery bags into her van when her car was jacked, or that was the idea. She jumped in the car as her assailant drove it out of the parking lock and ultimately disabled him in a choke hold…a one-armed choke hold. The listen beats the read when it comes to Ms. Haliday and her firsthand account, so that’s all I’m going to tell you.

Hillery eventually learned not to say everything that came to mind. Some were too good not to write down.
